Do Special Hire Drivers have to wear seat belts?

No, technically speaking the iSpecial Hire Taxi driver (whether public hire or private hire) is obliged to wear a seatbelt as a result of a regulation under the Traffic and Road Safety Act introduced in 2004 that hasn’t been changed since. Per statutory Instrument No.32 of 2004. The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts) Regulations 2004, taxi drivers are obliged at all times to wear seatbelt irregardless of whether they are seeking hire, answering a call for hire or carrying a passenger for hire.
